Julen Lopetegui was relieved of his duties from Sevilla in October after a defeat to Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League, however this does not demostrate his managerial skills, with him winning the Europa League with Sevilla. He has also previously managed, Real Madrid and the Spanish National Team for some time. Now, he has been hired by Wolves, who have been chasing the Spaniard for 7 years now. His first game in charge will be on Monday 14th November, and is expected to be watching their game against Arsenal next Saturday.
Wolves, who are currently sat in 19th in the Premier League on just 10 points, sacked Portuguese manager, Bruno Lage, 5 weeks ago and have been chasing Lopetegui, with the first attempt failing and a second attempt failing too. They then went on to try and sign Queens Park Rangers manager, Michael Beale, who turned down the approach. Finally, they got their man and hopefully he will turn draws and losses into wins for the Birmingham side. Wolves need to sort their attacking form out too, only scoring 6 goals in 13 games, which is the worst in the Premier League. They have only won 2 games, whilst drawing 4 games and losing 7. Wolves will really need to push themselves to get out of the relegation zone and Lopetegui could help the club do that.
Wolves Chairman, Jeff Shi, said, "Julen is a top coach, with excellent experience at an elite level of the game, and we are very pleased to have agreed a deal to bring him to Wolves. Since the very beginning, Julen has been our number one choice to manage Wolves, and we look forward to welcoming him and his team when they join us in the coming weeks."
