With his contract expiring in 2024, Rafael Leao will be looking to either extend his stay with AC Milan or moving to a new club in Europe. Milan want to extend his stay but 2 main obstacles stand in the way, according to Matteo Moretto of Relevo. During numerous conversations between club and player, the Rossoneri have proposed a salary of €6.5 million a year, but no formal offer has been made. However, this salary seems far off the demands of the player. The other issue is the fact that Rafael Leao has been ordered by courts that he must pay Sporting Club de Portugal, €16 million but with interest that could raise to €19 million, after he terminated his contract with the club unilaterally and Milan don't want to pay that amount.
Currently, Leao's contract release clause stands at €150 million, but his agent has asked for the asking fee to be lower. A departure doesn't seem like it would happen in January but June 2023 would be where a departure would seem to happen, with Milan wanting around €100-150 million. Leao loves the city and club but know there is interest from other clubs. Chelsea is the main club interested who allegedly submitted a €100 million bid last summer that was rejected. Manchester City are also very attentive but know that with Mendes as Leao's agent, twists can happen behind their back. Manchester United are a third option for the player.
